Paper Marbling Intensive

  • Bainbridge Artisan Resource Network 8890 Three Tree Lane NE Bainbridge Island, WA, 98110 United States (map)

This two-day introduction to paper marbling will give you a solid grounding in the history, styles, tools, and techniques of classical European marbling — and the confidence to continue practicing on your own. We'll cover all the essentials: carrageenan, primer, paints, trays, rakes, combs, and more.

Details

  • Day 1 focuses on the foundations. We'll walk you through handling paints in a water medium, creating the classical patterns that once adorned the endpapers of old books, and building harmonious color palettes using the color wheel.

  • Day 2 builds on that base. You'll move into more modern patterns, work with metallic, gold, and pearl paints, and explore overmarbling where one pattern is superimposed upon another  to create richer, more complex designs.

  • You'll have your own tray, paints, rakes, combs, and paper throughout. Expect to leave with around 30 sheets of original marbled work.
